Boys’ Fashions in the Model A Era
Back in the late 1920s and early 1930s, school-age boys often wore “knickers,” trousers that ended just under the knee and were commonly paired with long stockings. Suspenders were also frequently used.
More Formal Styles for Older Boys
In this more formal era, older boys often wore suits styled after those worn by their adult counterparts. Young people generally dressed more formally for high school, college, church, and other social occasions than they do today.
The classic “newsboy cap” was especially popular and became one of the most recognizable accessories of the period.
Popular Casual Clothing
Casual knitwear also became increasingly popular during the late 1920s and early 1930s. Fair Isle sweaters, cricket sweaters, and wool cardigans were common choices for everyday and weekend wear.
These colorful sweaters and practical layers offered a slightly more relaxed look while still maintaining the neat, well-dressed appearance associated with the era.
Dressing Children for Model A Tours and Events
Recreating a period-appropriate look for a Model A event does not have to be complicated. A newsboy cap, a pair of suspenders, and trousers modified into knickers can quickly give children an authentic Model A-era appearance.
Add a vintage-style sweater, button-down shirt, tie, or jacket, and younger participants can easily join in the fun of dressing for Model A tours, shows, and club events.
While Theodore Roosevelt preferred the stately formality of the horse drawn carriage, successor William Howard Taft Motorized the White House Fleet.
On July 20, thirteen Model A’s and five moderns participated in a tour to Mary’s Café in Tin Top, TX. Twenty-five members, family and friends enjoyed the rolling countryside views and the tasty food at Mary’s. Following the lunch, some members drove to Weatherford to tour the Vintage Car Museum before returning to Fort Worth.
Wheels for Wellness is a fun event with over 400 vehicles attending but more important WFW arranges with a lab for FREE PSA blood tests. Our donation will cover the cost of registration for members Model A’s for 21 vehicles, first come, first registered.

As Co-chair for the 2024 Texas Tour, hosted by the Dallas Model A Ford Club, my desire was to have it in Nacogdoches, the oldest town in Texas, rich with Texas history. I love planning tours, but it wouldn’t have been the success that it was without the help of so many club members!

The car has been in many car shows and won awards, participated in weddings and parades. It has been in an enclosed, insulated car shop and has had minor upkeep but needs some TLC.
