From the MAFFI President: John Begg Question

Model A Ford Foundation, Inc. Museum Wall

Is it even possible to have a heat index of 108 degrees? Well, here in SC in late June, we are about to find out. We may be on pace to break records going back way before the Model A hit the road. This thought makes me long for cooler temperatures in September when we will have our annual Model A Days on the campus of The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan. For two full days, Friday, September 20th and Saturday, September 21st, all things Model A related will be celebrated, including two full days of swap meet, seminars, Vintage Rides and our Model A Driving School. This year we unveil the Model AA Passenger Bus, that was donated by and has been under restoration leadership by Ken Ehrenhofer. We plan to have the unveiling as part of our Friday night dinner event and Model T rides on The Gilmore campus. Please remember to register for this event on our web site, www.maffi.org.

So, you might be asking what’s happening with the new expansion of the museum. By the time you read this article, construction should be in progress. Although we have not completed our fund raising goal (we are at about 80%) for construction, we want to complete the “shell” of the structure this year as we continue to raise the remaining funds for completion. We expect to have displays in place in our new expanded area this time next year. In addition to creating vignettes showing Model A’s in use during the 1930’s and a working learning center garage, we will also incorporate restrooms, making life easier for all of us. Let me close by thanking so many people that have made donations to our new expansion project and encourage the continued support of fund raising needed for completion.

Speaking for myself and the rest of the Trustees and Volunteers, we look forward to seeing you in September. We also wish to acknowledge the devastation that occurred from fires in Ruidoso, New Mexico and wish for a speedy recovery for their community.
